Zimmerman Unveils Legislation to Streamline Ag Conservation Permitting

Legislation designed to condense the process for conservation permitting for agriculture projects has been introduced in Harrisburg. House Bill 1256 would move the responsibility for farm permitting from DEP to the Conservation Commission, consolidating the responsibilities of permitting, inspection, and enforcement under one roof. Bill sponsor, Rep. Dave Zimmerman (R-Lancaster), said his bill would benefit farmers by speeding up the permitting process, and ensuring that the individuals implementing the rules understand the needs of the agricultural community.

Rep. Bernstine Says Tax Amnesty Program Window to Open Soon – Audio PSA :30 now available

Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver, Butler & Lawrence) wants Pennsylvanians who owe back taxes to the state to know they will soon have an option to participate in a new tax amnesty program. The program, which offers incentives to Pennsylvanians to settle their delinquent tax accounts, does not “forgive” taxes owed but instead waives penalties, collection and lien fees, and half of the interest owed. All taxes owed to the Commonwealth administered by the Department of Revenue are eligible for the program. The delinquent taxes must have been owed as of December 31, 2015. Cutler Comments on His Bill to Give Patients More Control in End-of-Life Care

Legislation designed to improve the quality of care people receive at the end of their lives by enabling patients to pre-plan certain aspects of their treatment has been introduced in Harrisburg. House Bill 1196 would allow the Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment (POLST) form to be completed after a discussion of end-of-life choices between a patient, their legal decision maker, and their physician. Bill sponsor, House Majority Whip Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster), said this program would comfort patients and their loved ones by providing peace of mind during challenging emotional circumstances.

Pickett Says House Insurance Committee to Examine Issues Surrounding the Regulation of the Air Ambulance Industry

The House Insurance Committee, led by Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna), will hold an informational meeting to learn more about federal legislation that would allow state governments to regulate the air ambulance industry. Rep. Pickett appeared at a press conference held Monday in Harrisburg with state insurance regulators and citizens who have experienced unexpectedly high bills from air ambulance companies. Rep. Pickett said legitimate questions have arisen about how air ambulance companies are regulated and about how the government can protect patients who may not receive adequate compensation from their health insurers to cover the costs of air ambulance services.
