Stephens Sworn in for the House for 2020-21 Term
HARRISBURG-- Rep. Todd Stephens (R-Montgomery) was sworn in today to his sixth term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
“I have had the honor and privilege of serving the people of the 151st District working to deliver meaningful results on the issues important to them,” Stephens said. “I look forward to continuing that service over the next two years.”
Stephens vowed to continue his fight to help small businesses struggling against the COVID-19 shutdowns. “These businesses are the lifeblood of our economy,” Stephens said. “We must do whatever we can to safely reopen and help those who have been financially devastated.”
Working to ensure Pennsylvania’s government, including the unemployment and campaign finance and elections systems are working properly is a top priority as well. “Pennsylvanians must know that these important government programs and systems are operating appropriately and it’s our job to provide the oversight and accountability necessary to ensure they are,” explained Stephens.
Stephens will also continue his fight to hold the federal government accountable for contaminating local drinking water systems with harmful PFAS chemicals through their use at the former Willow Grove Naval Air Station. “The redevelopment of the vacant Willow Grove Naval Air Station has been delayed for far too long. The federal government needs to remediate all contamination and turn the property over to the community so that property can return to productive use,” explained Stephens.
In the last term, Stephens introduced House Bill 2638 which became Act 101 of 2019 to redirect state tax revenue resulting from the development of the former military installation and nearby parcels to the newly created Military Installation Remediation Authority (MIRIA), which Stephens chairs.
In its first round of grants, the MIRIA provided over $15 million to reimburse ratepayers who were paying surcharges to remove contaminants from their water, to pay the costs of eliminating the contaminants from drinking water in Horsham and neighboring municipalities and to begin important transportation infrastructure improvements to promote the redevelopment of the vacant military base.
