Delozier Sworn into Office, Appointed to Chair Children and Youth Committee
HARRISBURG - State Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) has been appointed to serve as majority chairman of the House Children and Youth Committee in what will be her seventh two-year term in the state Legislature. The announcement was made Tuesday in conjunction with swearing-in day for the 2021-22 Legislative Session of the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
“It continues to be an honor to serve the residents of the 88th Legislative District,” Delozier said. “The people I represent are resilient, even during the difficult times in which we find ourselves. We are up for the challenge and I look forward to serving as their voice in the state House and working with them as we recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Delozier’s appointment to the House Children and Youth Committee marks her second chairmanship, having served in a similar capacity last term with the House Commerce Committee. While there, her duties included leading public hearings on how the pandemic impacted moratoriums on landlords and tenants, energy bills and higher education debt. This new assignment features an entirely new set of challenges.
“Defending victims’ rights has been a passion of mine, even before I ran for public office. Similarly, this committee is charged with protecting the rights of some of our most vulnerable citizens,” added Delozier. “In recent years, it has taken up key pieces of legislation involving adoption, child abuse and grandparents’ rights. Throughout my time in the legislature, I have worked to give those struggle to have their voice heard in our social service and justice systems. I will continue to stand up for them in my role as majority chairman.”
The 88th District which Delozier represents includes Lower Allen and Upper Allen townships, and Lemoyne, Mechanicsburg, New Cumberland, Shiremanstown and Wormleysburg boroughs.
