Marshall Responds to Gov. Wolf’s Proposed Budget, Tax Increases
2/9/2016
HARRISBURG– Rep. Jim Marshall (R-Beaver/Butler) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget proposal, which includes $2.7 billion in new taxes:

“I am disappointed that Gov. Wolf once again put forward a plan that would significantly raise taxes in order to spend more money at his discretion.

“The governor’s budget address today was more like a political campaign speech than a presentation of his budget priorities. He offered no details and resorted to ultimatums and scare tactics to gain support for his proposal, presenting two options: Raise taxes or suffer the ‘devastating consequences.’

“While he insists on referring to them as “revenue enhancements,” they are higher taxes, plain and simple. However, the people I represent have been clear, telling me to hold the line on increased spending. There is simply no support for higher taxes.

“I disagree with Gov. Wolf’s premise that we must close the budget gap while increasing spending.

“As we move forward in the budget process, I remain committed to supporting a responsible, balanced budget that holds government accountable, encourages job growth and does not force middle-class families and small businesses to send more of their hard-earned money to Harrisburg.”
