Topper, Metzgar Respond to Governor’s Line-Item Veto
12/29/2015
HARRISBURG – Reps. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton/Franklin) and Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Somerset/Bedford) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s line-item veto of the fiscally responsible compromise budget:

“Gov. Tom Wolf was six months too late to release funding to school districts and non-profit human service organizations in need. We are thankful that the funding has been released, but this should have happened in June and not December. Gov. Wolf could have exercised a line-item veto on June 30, but instead, he chose to use a full veto. We gave him numerous opportunities to release these funds, but only now he chose to do so.”

“The governor needs to tone down his campaign-style rhetoric. We simply do not have the money to spend as much as Gov. Wolf wishes for. Neither the House, the Senate, nor the governor himself has been able to produce a tax plan that would pass with majority votes in both chambers. The residents of Bedford County have asked us to stand firm for a reasonable and fiscally responsible budget that does not include massive tax increases, we will continue fighting for the hard-working people in Bedford county.”
