Heffley Implores Gov. Wolf to Sign Budget
12/24/2015
Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) released the following statement after the Senate passed House Bill 1460, a House-authored budget that now heads to the governor’s desk.
“This budget, while not perfect, stopped Gov. Tom Wolf from carrying out a massive $1.8 billion tax increase. It is now up to the governor to end this budget impasse and release funding to our schools, counties and human service agencies.
“While I am disappointed that property tax relief was not included in this budget, the alternative would have been much worse. Under Wolf’s proposal, Pennsylvania was going to get tax increases without property tax relief, and hard-working families and seniors in Carbon County cannot afford additional taxes. I encourage Gov. Wolf to end this impasse and sign the budget so we can move forward and continue to work on the many important issues facing our state.”
House Bill 1460 contains a $100 million increase for Basic Education Funding, a $50 million increase for Ready-to-Learn block grants, a $25 million increase for Pre-K Counts, a $5 million increase for Head Start and a $30 million increase for special education.
The bill is currently on Gov. Wolf’s desk awaiting action.
