Ellis Urges Governor to Sign Responsible Budget
HARRISBURG – Rep. Brian Ellis (R-Butler) urges Gov. Tom Wolf to sign
House Bill 1460, a full-year state budget plan that was approved by the Senate on Wednesday afternoon.
“I am hopeful that the governor does the right thing and signs this responsible state budget that the Senate passed today,” Ellis said. “This budget impasse has gone on for far too long. Our schools and our most vulnerable citizens do not deserve to be held hostage as a result of the budget impasse we’re currently in. The governor will have a responsible budget that gained bipartisan support in the Senate before him. How we proceed is now up to him.”
The House Bill 1460 spending plan includes:
• $100 million increase for Basic Education Funding.
• $50 million increase for Ready-to-Learn Block Grant
• $25 million increase for Pre-K Counts and a $5 million increase for Head Start. This will help to serve an additional approximately 3,500 children.
• $30 million increase for special education.
• A total increase of $405 million for PreK-12 education.
• Contains an Accelerated School Construction Investment Program to expedite the disbursement of $2.5 billion in bond funds to schools for construction projects.
