House Approves Saccone Measure to Bestow New Honors
HARRISBURG – Legislation introduced by Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny/Washington) that would create two new decorations to the list of existing medals, badges and awards conferred by the Commonwealth for heroic civilian and military service passed the Pennsylvania House on Monday.
The two new decorations are the Pennsylvania Medal of Achievement and the Pennsylvania Veterans Service Award. The Pennsylvania Medal of Achievement would be ranked fifth, under the Pennsylvania Commendation Medal, and the Pennsylvania Veterans Service Award would be ranked 13th, under the Pennsylvania Outstanding Aeronautical Achievement Award.
“Since the days of the American Revolution, there has been no shortage of Pennsylvanians willing to place country before self, demonstrating tremendous courage and valor,” said Saccone. “With the creation of these new medals, the governor will have the ability to further recognize outstanding service by both civilians and service members, honoring their sacrifices in maintaining freedom and their dedication to the Commonwealth and its citizens.”
The legislation now advances to the Senate. For more information, please visit
