Millard Responds to Wolf’s Veto of Emergency Funding Plan
HARRISBURG – On Sept. 24, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed an emergency spending plan, which would provide more than $11 billion in funding for public and private schools, rape crisis centers, Area Agencies on Aging and other social service providers while state budget negotiations continue. The critical funding attempt was vetoed today by Gov. Tom Wolf.
Rep. David Millard (R-Berwick), who supported the bill, issued this statement following the governor’s veto:
“Every community, whether that community has elected a Republican or a Democrat to represent them, has citizens in need of essential and critical government services. As this unnecessary and politically motivated budget impasse continues, counties, local governments, schools and social service providers are facing significant, and unacceptable impacts.
“I have spoken directly to local and county officials, representatives from the Area Agency on Aging, as well as members of my community about how the absence of government funding is impacting their ability to function. The impact they are feeling is real, and requires our immediate attention.
“Gov. Wolf had yet another opportunity to put politics aside and get that needed funding out of Harrisburg and back to the communities where it belongs. Unfortunately, the Pennsylvania taxpayers are again innocent victims.
“It’s time to make Pennsylvanians our priority, not our pawns.”
