Everett Resolution Honors Children’s Cardiomyopathy Month in Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG – The House unanimously passed a resolution earlier this month authored by Rep. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming/Union) declaring September as Children’s Cardiomyopathy Month in Pennsylvania.
“This resolution is designed to raise awareness of this debilitating disease which strikes children’s heart muscles,” said Everett. “I have first-hand experience with this disease as my grandson, Nolan McLaughlin, is afflicted with it and, as a result, underwent a heart transplant last year. He is recovering and joined me on the House floor recognizing the earlier passage of this resolution. I am grateful for the unanimous support of my House colleagues in helping call attention to this disease and to aid in getting better treatment and quality of life for these children.”

House Resolution 409 credits the Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation for its diligent work in focusing on this disease. The foundation actively works with federal agencies, medical societies, voluntary health organizations and hospitals nationwide to accelerate research and advance education in pediatric cardiomyopathy.
In addition to Nolan McLaughlin, his parents, Cori and Matt McLaughlin, his sister, Riley, and his grandmothers, Susan McLaughlin and Sue Everett were also present on the House floor for recognition by the full House.
