Heffley’s Bipartisan Bill to Help Veterans Secure Jobs Becomes Law
7/13/2015
HARRISBURG – Legislation introduced by state Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) that will streamline certification and licensing processes for veterans and help match them with good-paying jobs faster was recently signed into law.

House Bill 157, which is now Act 23 of 2015, requires state agencies to take into account service members’ military service, education, training and military experience for licensing or certification requirements. It is intended to prevent service members from having to duplicate state certification requirements so that they can transition to a civilian career faster and with greater ease.

“For their sacrifices and service to our country, service members deserve every resource necessary to help them make a smooth transition to the civilian workforce,” Heffley said. “Unfortunately, many service members have a hard time finding jobs after the military returning because of onerous and redundant training and certification requirements. This law will ensure that service members’ military education and training are taken into account when applying for certain professional licenses and credentials.

“My hope is that this law will streamline certification and licensing processes for veterans and help match them with good-paying jobs faster,” Heffley added.

The bill unanimously passed both the state House in February and Senate in June.
