Flick Announces Committee Assignments for 2023-24 Session
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Flick (R – Lycoming/Union) announced that he was recently assigned to the Government Oversight, Children and Youth, and Human Services committees.
The Government Oversight Committee aims to provide better legislative oversight on how tax dollars are spent and how state agencies operate. The committee mirrors the House Committee on Oversight and Reform in the U.S. Congress.
“I am humbled to be on the Government Oversight Committee as the only freshman legislator, and apparently the first freshman ever assigned to this committee,” said Flick.
Now chaired by Rep. Morgan Cephas (D-Philadelphia) and Republican Chairman Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne), this committee previously investigated business closures and the handling of nursing homes as a part of former Gov. Tom Wolf’s COVID-19 response, as well as the purchase of firearms by the Office of State Inspector General.
“We cannot afford, nor tolerate, corruption or incompetence at any level in the public or private sectors,” shared Flick.
The House Children and Youth Committee studies adoption and child protection issues, child day care services, infant/dependent and mother health issues, juvenile delinquency, and other adolescent and teen problems.
The House Human Services Committee has oversight of issues within the Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs. The committee deals with legislation that addresses the heroin and opioid overdose crisis, the delivery of human services throughout the Commonwealth and the challenges faced by individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.
Flick has already called for a full and thorough investigation of the East Palestine train derailment and its effects on Pennsylvania residents and wants to ensure that Pennsylvania taxpayers will not be responsible for paying for the derailment and its aftermath.
“Given my background providing software solutions for the health and human services sector and my experience as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer, I hope to lend valuable insight to these committees so that we can empower people and protect children.”
The Pennsylvania State House of Representatives is next in session April 24, when it will begin voting on bills in committee and the House floor.
