Struzzi Legislation Protects Pennsylvania’s Ag Community
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana) is looking to close a loophole in the nearly-50-year-old Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, better known as the Federal Lemon Law.
“The one line of products that is currently immune from enforcement of the act is farm equipment,” said Struzzi. “The agriculture community has no recourse should a faulty farm implement be purchased, and the lack of existing consumer protection could be devastating to family farmers who make major investments to keep their business whole.”

House Bill 1325, which sits with the House Consumer Protection, Technology and Utilities Committee, would require manufacturers to fix defects that substantially impair the use, value, or safety of the equipment during the first year of ownership or if the equipment must be ‘in the shop’ for more than 30 days during the first year.
“If anything, providing protections for the purchase of farming equipment is even more critical than those provided when a car is purchased, due to the heavy reliance placed on farm machinery for business purposes,” Struzzi added. “A farmer getting ‘burned‘ by a bad purchase can impact a community and a supply chain in so many more ways.”
