House Passes Vereb Resolution Honoring National Fraternal Order of Police’s 100th Anniversary
5/12/2015
HARRISBURG — The state House of Representatives today unanimously passed a resolution introduced by Rep. Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery) honoring the National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) on its 100th anniversary.

“For a century now, the FOP has worked tirelessly on behalf of law enforcement officers across the nation by offering support and assistance to the men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting our communities,” Vereb said. “This resolution is meant to recognize the FOP’s service to law enforcement and honor its continued efforts to ensure public safety.”

With more than 320,000 members from more than 2,100 lodges, the FOP is the nation’s largest professional law enforcement organization. Its roots began in Pennsylvania, as the organization was founded in Pittsburgh in 1915. The Pennsylvania State Lodge has 107 subordinate lodges across the Commonwealth and represents law enforcement officers from various types of police agencies.

The organization supports charitable projects, advocates for safer communities and seeks improved working conditions for law enforcement officers nationwide through its educational, legislative, community involvement and employee representation efforts.

“As a former police officer, I understand how important the FOP is in standing up for the brave men and women of law enforcement,” Vereb said. “I thank my colleagues for supporting this resolution, as it sends the message that we appreciate those who risk their lives to keep us safe.”

The National FOP will hold its centennial celebration from Aug. 9-13 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.
