Santora Releases Statement on Gov. Wolf’s Budget Proposal
3/3/2015
HARRISBURG – Rep. James Santora (R-Delaware) today released the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2015-16 budget proposal:

“Today in his budget address, the governor proposed a $33.8 billion spending plan that increases state spending by 16 percent, or $4.7 billion, funded through what would amount to the largest tax increase in Pennsylvania’s history. Like the governor, I support schools that teach, jobs that pay and government that works. But we cannot achieve these objectives by simply overtaxing our residents and allowing Harrisburg to spend more money.

“While I am pleased that Governor Wolf recognized the need to provide property tax relief and increase funding to our classrooms, I am concerned with how he plans to pay for these costs. In pursuing much-needed relief for our property owners and students, we need to ensure that we reach solutions that are both sustainable and fiscally responsible. Any revenue reductions from property tax reform must be offset by a dollar-for-dollar shift in other revenue, and not a net tax increase.

“The governor’s address today marked the start of the budget process. I look forward to working with the governor and my colleagues in the legislature to pass a timely and responsible budget that first and foremost provides relief for our property tax owners and increases educational opportunities for our students.”
