Rapp Rejects Governor’s Tax and Spend Budget Proposal
HARRISBURG — Rep. Kathy Rapp (R-Warren/Crawford/Forest) issued the following statement today regarding Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2015-16 state budget proposal:
“Ever since Governor Tom Wolf was first elected I have tried to give him the benefit of doubt due to his reputation as a successful business owner. However, after hearing his budget address and reviewing his proposed individual spending line items, the governor’s economic philosophy has never been more transparent. From paychecks to non-conventional oil operations to essential items for senior citizens such as wheel chairs, canes and walkers, there is virtually nothing or no one that this governor will not tax.
“Perhaps even more disappointing, are the individual line items that the governor has chosen not to fund.
For example, although Pennsylvania farmers are also being asked to pay more than ever before, important state programs such as Agricultural Research, Promotion, Education and Exports as well as Hardwood Research and Promotion, would receive no state funding under the governor’s proposed budget.
“The governor’s proposed budget also eliminates funding for diabetes and lupus programs; regional poison control centers and trauma prevention; and ALS, Epilepsy and Tourette Syndrome support services—to name just a few.
“Clearly, the Legislature has much work to do over the coming months to deliver a balanced, fiscally responsible state budget that adequately funds public education and other essential government services, without unsustainable spending and tax increases that Pennsylvania’s hard-working families and most vulnerable citizens cannot afford to pay.”
