Knowles Responds to Governor’s Budget Proposal
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jerry Knowles (R-Berks/Carbon/Schuylkill) issued the following statement today regarding Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year:
“Today’s address marked the beginning of the state budget-crafting process. The governor has focused on some of our state’s largest issues in his proposal. A lot of details come with a significant plan like that, so it will take some time to review everything that is included.
“I have a difficult time understanding how the governor is proposing to increase spending by $4.7 billion while talking about cutting taxes. I’m anxious to see just how he intends to do that. Based on what he said today, it sounds to me like he wants to take cash advances on state credit cards that are already maxed out.
“As always, my main concern is controlling state spending, and ensuring that every taxpayer dollar is being spent wisely. I have residents who are having a hard time making it through the winter, and who are struggling to pay for the essentials – heat, medicine and food. With realities like this, I can’t imagine the governor raising my constituents income tax and sales taxes, when so many can barely afford food or to heat their homes.”
