Committee to Learn More about Solutions for Child Maltreatment
WHAT: The House Children and Youth Committee, led by Rep. Kathy Watson (R-Bucks/144th), will hear from experts at Penn State University (PSU) on the university’s Child Maltreatment Solutions Network and its Center for Healthy Children, which is a national center for child maltreatment research funded by a $7.7 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
WHO: Watson, members of the committee along with presenters, Dr. Jennie Noll, professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State and director of the Child Maltreatment Solutions Network; and Dr. Sheridan Miyamoto, an assistant professor at PSU’s College of Nursing and a faculty member in the Child Maltreatment Solutions Network.
Noll was the lead hire in a cluster-hire of 12 faculty across five colleges at PSU who conduct cutting-edge research to solve the complex issues of child maltreatment from transdisciplinary lenses, while Miyamoto is a nationally recognized expert in sexual abuse and has more than 17 years of experience as an advanced practice nurse in the field of forensic sexual assault.
