The state House approved legislation introduced by Rep. Flood that would empower county children and youth agencies to seek court orders requiring parents to submit to drug or alcohol screenings in cases where substance abuse likely played a part in a case of suspected child abuse.

During a meeting of the House Transportation Committee, Rep. Doyle Heffley spoke in support of Senate Bill 382, legislation that was introduced in response to PennDOT’s $2.2 billion Pathways P3 road and bridge tolling project, which includes several interstate bridges in his region. The proposal would bring a halt to the process and allow for more time to work out an alternative to tolling. The committee voted to send the bill to the full House for consideration.
