Struzzi Questions PASSHE's Planned Request for Increased Funding

During a joint public hearing with the House Appropriations and Education Committees, Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Chancellor Daniel Greenstein announced a request for $550 million in state funding for the 2022-23 fiscal year will be made. During questioning, state Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana) asked him to break down what would be a $73 million increase over last year's appropriation for PASSHE.

Committee Advances Lobbying Reform Measures

The House State Government Committee, on which I serve, advanced lobbying reform legislation, including House Bill 1009, which I co-sponsored. This bill would impose a gift ban for public officials and staff. I spoke in committee about the importance of this legislation to help ensure ethical behavior and protect the public interest.
Committee Aims to Prevent Conflicts of Interest in Lobbying

The House State Government Committee voted to approve House Resolution 1114, which would urge the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to consider regulations on lawyers and certain lobbying activities to ensure transparency and to prevent conflicts of interest. One practice I find particularly problematic is the payment of referral fees to lawyers when they make referrals to lobbyists. This legislation would address this.
