HARRISBURG—The House today passed legislation by Rep. Todd Polinchock (R-Bucks),
House Bill 2412, to require the secretary of the Department of Community and Economic Development to issue a waiver to the COVID-19 Business Closure Order to allow all real estate-related activities that can adhere to social distancing practices and other mitigation measures defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
“It only makes sense that we should allow people of the Commonwealth access to housing, as food and shelter are two of the most important securities we have,” Polinchock said. “Real estate licensees have the ability to abide by and adhere to guidelines and restrictions outlined by the CDC during these transactions in order to stay safe.”
The Pennsylvania housing market has been devastated by the governor’s waiver process and business closures. Real estate professionals, along with their families and clients across the state have been struggling to understand why they are unable to settle housing concerns, while 48 other states have lifted this restriction.
“I urge the Senate to do what is right for the people of the Commonwealth and pass this bill,” Polinchock said. “Our citizens deserve the right to housing and our real estate professionals are more than capable of providing safe working conditions.”
Polinchock’s legislation, House Bill 2412, is now awaiting consideration in the state Senate.
