HARRISBURG - Rep. Stan Saylor (R-York) issued the following statement today in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s recommendation that school and recreational youth sports be canceled until Jan. 1, 2021:
“The governor’s statement that school and youth sports should be canceled for the rest of the year blindsided student athletes, families and school administrators. This is just the latest example of his often-arbitrary orders that at times appear to be plucked out of the thin air.”
“Just last week, the governor stated that he would not be issuing any statewide orders closing school buildings or cancelling classes. If we are asking school districts to make the best decisions for their students and staff, the same should apply to student activities such as sports.”
“Student athletes, band students and cheerleaders have been looking forward to returning to the field to compete. Schools and coaches have been preparing to allow them to do so safely. The governor’s last-minute comments have now caused unnecessary chaos for so many families.”
