HARRISBURG – Joined by fellow members of the House of Representatives, Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) took the oath of office today for the 2021-22 session, his second term in office.

“Amid the pomp and circumstance that is the swearing-in ceremony, I reflected on what it means to represent the 193rd Legislative District,” Ecker said. “For me, it means continuing to make sure residents’ voices are heard in Harrisburg; that our ideals are at the forefront of my mind as I consider legislation and policies that impact every Pennsylvania.”

“The ceremony today was bittersweet as we mourn the loss of my friend and colleague, Rep. Mike Reese (R-Westmoreland/Somerset). I continue to keep his wife and family in my prayers, and I hope our continued efforts to serve Pennsylvania will honor his legacy,” Ecker said.

For the 2021-22 session, Ecker will serve on the prestigious House Appropriations Committee, which dictates the annual General Fund budget. With a seat at the table, residents of Adams and Cumberland counties will have a loud, clear voice in the budgeting process as Ecker works to hold the line on spending.

“It’s no secret the upcoming budget will be a difficult one to formulate because of the negative impacts the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting businesses closures are having on Pennsylvanian’s personal finances and the state’s fiscal house,” Ecker said. “While the task at hand will be difficult, I believe we can rise to the challenge and move forward to create a stronger, more resilient Commonwealth.”

Today’s swearing in ceremony was one of the most unique to ever occur in the history of the Legislature. To follow COVID-19 pandemic safety protocols, members arrived in the House chamber in smaller groups to abide by social distancing recommendations.

Ecker is going into the new session with an optimism that representatives from both sides of the aisle can work together, along with the Senate and governor, to address the issues so that Pennsylvania can be made an even better place to work and raise a family.
