HARRISBURG – To continue his efforts strengthening Pennsylvania’s second largest industry, Rep. David Millard (R-Berwick) has been appointed to another term as chairman of the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee during the 2021-22 legislative session. Millard was also appointed a member of the House Judiciary Committee.

“The vibrancy of Pennsylvania’s tourism industry is second to none in the United States. With a rich mix of storied history, natural grandeur, metropolitan opportunity and small-town charm, Pennsylvania truly has much to offer both out-of-state visitors and residents who are enjoying short drives to great fun,” Millard said. “Working with my colleagues on the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee is very fulfilling as we take action to ensure and grow the viability of this huge economic generator for the Commonwealth.”

Tourism is the second largest industry in Pennsylvania, with more than $40 billion spent annually by leisure and business travelers, and $4.6 billion in tax revenues generated annually. More than 515,000 jobs are supported by the Commonwealth’s tourism industry.

“Our committee’s work comes at a crucial time when Pennsylvania’s tourism industry has been shuttered by travel restrictions and business closures due to COVID-19,” Millard continued. “Our top priority is to ensure that our tourism industry has the tools and support it needs to survive these difficult times and remain an economic powerhouse for Pennsylvania.”

The House Judiciary Committee deals with issues pertaining to criminal justice reform, firearms, family law, law enforcement, sex offenses, judicial reforms, animal cruelty, crime victims, juvenile justice and more.
