HARRISBURG – Rep. Bob Brooks (R-Allegheny/Westmoreland) today responded to Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2021-22 state budget proposal with the following statement:
“The governor announced his desired budget plan for fiscal year 2021-22. It will ensure a record funding allotment that will pay for his overspending the past two years and allow almost $3 billion more in new spending.
“In order to do it, he is suggesting a 46% increase in the Personal Income Tax (PIT) that workers and small businesses must pay. In addition, the governor is requesting an additional tax on natural gas, one of western Pennsylvania’s major employers.
“To think of paying higher taxes, let alone 50% more, during these difficult times for people who have been forced to seek unemployment compensation is just hard for me to swallow.
“I was hoping the governor’s address would feature more of an emphasis on growing the economy and improving personal safety as ways to bring us back to normal. Then, we might be able to look at new spending and increased revenues.
“I plan to return to the 54th District from Harrisburg and ask my constituents how they feel about the governor’s requests. The House of Representatives will be reviewing his plan and our constituent’s desires over the next several months.
“In the meantime, let’s concentrate on being safe and sign up for your COVID-19 vaccinations as supplies increase and you become eligible.”
