Jun. 25, 2021 / Press Release
HARRISBURG –Rep. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) issued the following statement following the passage of the 2021-22 state budget in the House.
“This budget cycle was one like no other as we had to consider the harm done financially from the pandemic. Working through the impacts of COVID-19 has not been easy, but I am confident this budget we have agreed to is a step towards a successful recovery.
“This budget promotes fiscal responsibility by putting $2.5 billion into the Rainy Day Fund. This savings fund will allow us to be better prepared for any future emergencies that should arise. On top of that, we were also able to hold our current spending level with no new taxes or fees.
“We ensured adequate funding for our schools and our police departments. I am happy to say I advocated for these two groups. Our schools are shaping our future generations and they need the funds to be sure they are doing so to the best of their ability. Our police forces have dealt with so much the past year and continue to keep our communities safe.
“As the state representative for the 49th District, I promised to do everything in my power to keep our spending reasonable and fair to everyone in the Commonwealth. I am overall pleased with this budget proposal and I encourage the governor to sign it into law.”
