HARRISBURG – Rep. Eli Evankovich (R-Westmoreland/Allegheny) today issued the following statement regarding his tenure as member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives:

“I began my journey into elected office to help make Pennsylvania a better place to get a job, raise a family and ensure prosperity for the next generation.

“Over my last eight years in the state House of Representatives, I have been blessed with that opportunity. During my tenure, I have done my best to work on issues to offer a different approach to government toward those objectives.

“With a consistent focus on fiscal responsibility, accountability and transparency in government, having government move at the speed of business and private sector job growth, I believe our state is a better place because our government is more efficient and accountable to you.

“Among the most important initiatives for me has been manufacturing. Since the beginnings of my professional career at Ford Motor Company and U.S. Steel, I have been humbled by the impact that American-based manufacturing has on families and our communities.

“As the chairman of the bipartisan House Manufacturing Caucus, I heard untold stories and challenges that manufacturers right here in Pennsylvania endure. By bringing their stories to Harrisburg, I believe we have made a difference.

“As I stated in December 2016, when I made my decision not to seek a fifth term, running for office was always about making a positive difference rather than a career path – I believe I delivered on that to the people of my district.

“I am pleased to announce that I have accepted a position with a manufacturing company headquartered in western Pennsylvania, starting in August, at which time I will resign my position as state representative.

“Over the next month, I plan to continue unfinished work locally and in Harrisburg, but more importantly to make certain that my office continues to operate for the people of the 54th District in my absence. I will be accumulating and itemizing all ongoing projects and outstanding issues to ensure any legislation, road projects, local government/school district issues and constituent casework are properly organized so that work can continue and passed along to my successor when he/she is selected by the public.

“I am thankful for all of my colleagues, staff, friends and supporters whom I have had the opportunity to work with over the last eight years.

“The voters of the 54th District have been a constant source of inspiration to me. Thank you all for trusting me to be your voice in state government.”
