HARRISBURG – Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Erie), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement after House passage of the 2018-19 state budget:
“I am pleased we were able to have such overwhelming support for the budget this year, which includes no tax increases, yet dedicates increased funding for education at every level and prioritizes money for public safety.
“As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I was part of the budget discussion from its earliest stages and have been pleased by a willingness from all parties – House, Senate and governor’s office – to work together to pass an on-time, fiscally responsible budget.
“With the national economy improving, the state has benefitted from healthy revenue collections, which means tax increases are not needed to meet state obligations. We are even putting money into the state’s Rainy Day Fund for the first time in over a decade.
“Some of the funding in the budget this year also will enable block grants for school safety initiatives, Medicaid reimbursements for emergency medical services and money to help families impacted by opioid addiction. An additional 285 state troopers will also be added to the Pennsylvania State Police complement to increase public safety in our communities.”
Following passage in the House,
