HARRISBURG –Members of the York County House Republican Delegation have once again held the line on taxes with approval of
House Bill 2121, the general appropriations portion of the state budget package of legislation.
The York County House Republican Delegation, comprised of Reps. Keith Gillespie (R-Hellam), Seth Grove (R-Dover), Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York Township), Dawn Keefer (R-Dillsburg), Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), and House Appropriations Chairman Stan Saylor (R-Red Lion) issued the following statement on the passage of the budget bill, which includes no new taxes or fees:
“Rejection of repeated attempts to increase or impose new taxes over recent years allowed our economy, free from government intervention, to grow naturally. The result is more money in taxpayers’ wallets and increased state revenues. In addition, for the first time since the 2006-07 fiscal year, the General Assembly will be able to re-establish the Rainy Day Fund.
“At the same time, this responsible $32.7 billion budget passed today by the House sets a new record high of $12.3 billion for PreK-12 education funding. Since Republicans have held the majority, state education spending for PreK-12 has increased by $3.4 billion. This budget also includes funding for school safety grants, combating the opioid epidemic and putting more police on our streets. It also supports our emergency responders and addresses the threat of the spotted lanternfly, an invasive insect that impacts agriculture and business.
“Even with these increases in funding, this budget increases overall spending at a rate lower than the rate of inflation. This budget is the result of prudent spending, an improved economy and responsible policies that prevented the need for constant calls for increased taxes over the last four years.”
