HARRISBURG – House Judiciary Committee Majority Chairman Ron Marsico (R-Dauphin) today led the committee in approving additional pieces of legislation addressing public safety, violence and Pennsylvania’s firearms laws.
“Today we finished what we started in yesterday’s meeting and voted on several more pieces of legislation related to public safety, violence and firearms laws,” said Marsico.
The following bills moved through the committee today:
•
House Bill 1872, which would add bump stocks and similar devices to the list of offensive weapons prohibited under state law. The bill would also provide that the offense would not apply to possession of such a device which was obtained prior to the bill’s effective date and it require the attorney general to publish notice in the PA Bulletin describing in detail the change in the law within 10 days of enactment of the bill.
•
House Bills 2266 and
2267, which together would shorten the period in which courts and mental health agencies must send mental health data to the Pennsylvania State Police from seven days to 72 hours of adjudicating an individual to be incompetent or involuntarily committing an individual to a mental institution for inpatient treatment.
“I am proud of the work we’ve done with this extremely sensitive topic,” said Marsico. “And we will continue to work hard on getting these meaningful pieces of legislation enacted as soon as possible.”
The legislation will now go to the full House for consideration.
