HARRISBURG – Rep. Tom Quigley (R-Montgomery) implores Gov. Tom Wolf to refocus his priorities after he today elected to approve the same level of funding for many budget items that he vetoed six months ago. Many have suffered in the past half a year, and Quigley reminds Wolf that they should be the motivation – not how he can get more money out of the pockets of Pennsylvania residents.
“Gov. Wolf could have chosen to exercise his line-item veto option veto option in July. Instead, he wasted taxpayer dollars and manufactured unnecessary disruption for many in the state, especially the state’s most vulnerable citizens,” Quigley said.
“He also punished social service agencies – those who help the most vulnerable Commonwealth citizens – in a game he played to try to claim more money from Pennsylvania residents,” Quigley added.
In the end, the budget he largely approved today contained almost the same level of funding as the one passed by the House and Senate and presented to the governor on June 30. Gov. Wolf approved more than 77 percent of the funding sent to him.
The governor wanted the budget to be supplemented with an increase in personal income taxes or sales taxes without dedicating any of the revenue to property tax relief. Despite the governor’s wishes, the budget presented to him contains no broad-based tax increases.
