HARRISBURG- Members of the York County House Republican delegation attended a press conference this morning to respond to Gov. Tom Wolf’s line-item veto of the fiscally responsible budget that was passed by the General Assembly before the Christmas holiday.

State Reps. Seth Grove (R-Dover), Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York Township) and Mike Regan (R-Dillsburg) issued the following statement in response to the governor’s announcement this morning:

“It took six months, but Gov. Wolf finally agreed with us in getting funding flowing to school districts and non-profit agencies that have been in need. This all started with Wolf’s complete and indiscriminate budget veto, and these dollars should have been flowing in June or July. Only now, after causing school districts to consider closing after the winter break and human service agencies to close or cut services, does Wolf realize the damage that he alone caused. He could have and should have exercised a line-item veto in June or signed the emergency funding measures we sent to his desk.

“The governor showed a shocking amount of anger during today’s press conference, but the time for this level of vitriol and his continued campaign rhetoric has come and gone. He finally needs to realize that hard-working, middle-class Pennsylvanians have no appetite for the taxes he wants.

“What is also troubling is Wolf’s continued use of education funding myths. His latest misdirection suggests that this budget cuts $95 million in education funding, which is complete fiction. This budget raised education spending to record levels. It is time for him to stop these games and speak the truth that taxpayers deserve. As further discussions continue, we will continue to remain faithful stewards of taxpayer dollars and will continue to fight against Wolf’s tax hikes.

"Today, Governor Wolf is the person who cut education funding to the tune of $3 billion. The largest education cut in the history of the Commonwealth."
