Dec. 29, 2015

HARRISBURG – Rep. Stephen Bloom (R-Cumberland) today released the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s line-item veto of the General Assembly’s latest budget compromise:

“While I’m relieved that Gov. Wolf has finally relented on holding some vulnerable Pennsylvanians as fiscal hostages for his unreasonable tax-and-spend demands, I will remain vigilant on behalf of the hard-working taxpayers to make sure that their best interests are protected as we move forward to resolve the outstanding issues. This governor has already inflicted so much unnecessary pain and expense by his refusal to compromise on anything, and we’re already six months into the 2015-16 fiscal year. I urge the governor to drop his misguided insistence on hiking taxes and spending. Our Commonwealth needs to move on. We should be discussing and planning next year’s budget instead of refighting battles over a budget year that’s now half over.”

Answering the overwhelming number of requests from Pennsylvanians to hold the line on tax increases, the General Assembly sent House Bill 1460 to the governor’s desk last week. The $30.26 billion spending plan funds state government’s core functions and supports Pennsylvania students by increasing education funding to the highest levels in the Commonwealth’s history — without the need for massive tax hikes.
