HARRISBURG – House Appropriations Chairman, William F. Adolph, Jr., was encouraged by the latest developments in the General Assembly’s efforts to resolve the ongoing state budget impasse.
“I am glad that the Senate in a bipartisan fashion realized how important it was to get a reasonable budget to the governor’s desk. The Senate’s action to revert back to the House-authored budget proposal represents our best opportunity to end this budget impasse,” said House Appropriations Chairman Adolph.
House Bill 1460 P.N.2626 contains a $30.3 billion, full-year budget that can be signed by the governor today. The HB1460 spending plan contains:
- $100 million increase for Basic Education Funding.
- $50 million increase for Ready-to-Learn Block Grant
- $25 million increase for Pre-K Counts and a $5 million increase for Headstart. This will help to serve an additional approximately 3,500 children.
- $30 million increase for Special Education.
- A total increase of $405 million for PreK-12 education!
- Contains an Accelerated School Construction Investment Program to expedite the disbursement of $ 2.5 billion in bond funds to schools for construction projects.
“It is clear that the votes required for the policy proposals and the required revenue package for the framework proposal were not there. This new development gets money out to schools, state government agencies, and service providers in the quickest way possible. I hope the governor will sign this budget and allow this impasse to end,” concluded Chairman Adolph.
