Dec. 08, 2015

HARRISBURG – Rep. James R. Santora (R-Delaware), joined by a majority of his colleagues in the House, today voted in favor of a fiscally responsible state spending plan that would end the state’s budget impasse. The prudent $30.2 billion budget funds the core functions of government.

Santora issued this statement following the vote:

“While I do not believe that our vote on this budget plan will immediately produce a 2015-16 final budget, I am confident that it will move us toward the real compromise necessary to pass a budget that the governor will sign.

“Certainly the Senate will amend the budget I voted on today, and I hope that their changes will increase education funding. I would like the final budget to increase basic education funding by $350 million, special education by $50 million and pre-kindergarten by $60 million.

“I appreciate the cost-containment measures in the plan, and there are many components of the budget that I support. However, more focus has to be given to key priorities including education.

“As state agencies that serve Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable citizens are missing more than five months of state funding, we must pass a final budget without delay.”
