HARRISBURG – On Sept. 24, Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) joined his colleagues in the House in supporting an emergency funding plan in order to provide more than $11 billion in funding for critical state government services while budget negotiations continue. Today, Gov. Tom Wolf vetoed the plan.
Warner issued this statement following the governor’s veto:
“Gov. Wolf had yet another opportunity to put politics aside in order to release desperately needed funding for critical state government services, which were left unfunded by his veto of the entire budget in June and again after an attempt to override his veto failed to pass the House.
“To my disappointment, he has again put his political agenda over the needs of the very people he was elected to serve.
“The impact of this budget impasse is real. Seniors and other Pennsylvanians in need of services are being turned away. Social service providers are pursuing lines of credit and furloughing staff. School districts are at risk of closing their doors. People are being held hostage, all for one man’s refusal to compromise in his quest for higher taxes.
“Today, Gov. Wolf ignored the pleas of many today across this Commonwealth by not doing the right thing for the citizens and taxpayers of Pennsylvania. Now months passed the budget deadline, it is time he makes the best interest of Pennsylvanians his top priority.”
