HARRISBURG – Legislation containing language from state Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland) and Rep. Pam DeLissio’s (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery)
House Bill 2437 was signed into law Thursday.
Together, as chairs of the House Children and Youth Committee, Delozier and DeLissio pursue creative avenues to find additional funding for the Pennsylvania Children’s Trust Fund (CTF), which is used for the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
“Adding the language from our House Bill 2437 as an amendment to what is now
Act 112 of 2022, gives Pennsylvanians who are renewing their driver’s license or identification card the option to make a $5 charitable donation to the CTF. Striking a balance between healthy funding for essential programs and preventing additional taxpayer obligations is sometimes a challenging task. I am proud the governor recognized the benefit of our contribution to this bill, and signed it into law,” Delozier said.
Charitable donations are to be used by the CTF board exclusively for the prevention of child abuse and neglect. PennDOT must then annually report the contributions made to the Pennsylvania Treasurer, who then transfers the contributions to the CTF. PennDOT will also include the address of the CTF to individuals who wish to make additional contributions.
The law will take effect in 59 days.
