HARRISBURG – State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) is ready for a new challenge, having been appointed Republican Chairman of the House Transportation Committee for the 2023-24 legislative session.

“With our approximately 120,000 linear miles of highway and the third-largest number of state-owned bridges (more than 25,400) in the nation, leading this committee will be a daunting task but one I look forward to taking on,” Benninghoff said. “We as a caucus managed to stave off Gov. Tom Wolf’s plan to use tolls as a means to address bridge repair. I look forward to working with Gov. Josh Shapiro and Secretary of Transportation-designate Mike Carroll to find ways to address funding needs that do not add to the burden already borne by Pennsylvania’s taxpaying commuters.”

First elected to office in 1996, Benninghoff’s knowledge and experience has allowed him to serve the Republican caucus in a number of leadership capacities. He is a former majority leader, majority whip and Majority Policy Committee chairman. Benninghoff also chaired the House Finance and State Government committees.

“The economy of Pennsylvania is absolutely dependent on a solid transportation infrastructure, and the General Assembly and the Administration need to come together to solve some serious transportation problems that face this Commonwealth,” added Benninghoff.

Questions about this or any legislative issue should be directed to Benninghoff’s Bellefonte district office at 814-355-1300 or his Reedsville district office at 717-667-1175.
