HARRISBURG – Gov. Josh Shapiro’s $45.8 billion budget proposal for 2023-24 represents a dangerous increase of $2.5 billion from the previous year’s approved spending plan, according to Rep. Jim Gregory (R-Blair).

“The governor’s budget makes a lot of promises, but promises can’t materialize unless they are paid for,” Gregory said. “In Pennsylvania, we must have a balanced budget, which means that a 5.9% increase in spending must be funded by dipping into savings reserves or levying new taxes.”

Gregory shared concerns about the potential impact on the residents of the 80th District.

“The average family in my district has to work within in a budget; it’s time that Pennsylvania does the same,” Gregory said.

The state budget must be in place before July 1.
