HARRISBURG - Rep. Donna Scheuren (R-Montgomery) has been named to two standing committees within the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 2023-24 Legislative Session. They are the Commerce and Professional Licensure committees.
“It's an honor to be named to such vital committees in my first term,” Scheuren said. “I have had many roles over the years that allowed me to be deeply involved with my community. I look forward to using that experience to do what’s best for my district and the Commonwealth.”
The committees are where all bills are first sent and reviewed. During the committee process, amendments can be offered, discussion on the bills takes place and sometimes public or informational hearings are held to gather more information on a legislative issue. Often that additional detail is needed to decide whether or not a vote should be taken, or whether the bill should advance and be brought before the full House.
Scheuren was assigned to the Commerce Committee, which is responsible for originating legislation and overseeing implementation of programs that affect Pennsylvania companies. Her second assignment is on the Professional Licensure Committee, which reviews bills related to professional and occupational licensure boards under purview of the state.
“The years I have spent in business will play a valuable role during committee meetings in discussing and directing legislative matters that are important to Pennsylvania companies,” Scheuren said. “As a former small business owner, I understand the needs of job creators and the importance of common-sense solutions to remove burdensome regulations currently hindering our small businesses.”
Aside from being a business owner, Scheuren also played a valuable role in her family’s construction company as an administrator overseeing the health and benefits of employees. Being an integral part of several small businesses, as well as a manufacturer's representative, has afforded Scheuren the opportunity to learn from various positions and gain knowledge on a range of issues.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues on legislation that keeps Pennsylvania, its businesses and our workforce in good standing,” Scheuren added.
