HARRISBURG – Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon) yesterday joined the House majority in passing an on-time, balanced budget that would close a $1.2 billion budget shortfall without tax increases. The proposal now goes to the Senate, where it is expected to pass and be sent to the governor’s desk by the June 30 deadline.
“I’m proud that we’ve passed a fiscally responsible budget that increases funding for education without raising a single tax,” said Diamond. “Unlike the governor’s proposal, our budget wouldn’t cost every man, woman and child in the Commonwealth an additional $375 each year in new taxes.”
Diamond added, “The ball will soon be in the governor’s court. The Legislature is fulfilling its constitutional obligation to present an on-time budget. The governor’s tax plan was already defeated in the House – unanimously. Holding out for massive tax increases makes no sense. Many Pennsylvanians, particularly children and seniors, are depending on the governor to do the right thing and sign this bill, and to do so by the June 30 deadline. I hope he will.”
