HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming) issues the following statement after voting “no” on a $45.55 billion state budget.

“The budget for the 2023-2024 fiscal year overspends with a 6% increase over the current year, forcing our state to dip into reserves in order to meet expenses. More so, there are 25 line-items in this budget that I have identified as having double-digit increases in spending, which I simply cannot support. We should be working to fix the structural deficit, not make it worse.”

“As an elected official and business owner, I believe it is unwise to create a budget that spends more than the money we currently bring in – it’s not fiscally responsible to our taxpayers. This is not how a well-managed business operates, or how a successful household operates, and it’s not how our Commonwealth should operate.

“I came to Harrisburg to help lower taxes for working class families. We can’t do that with a budget that increases our spending.”
