HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania House Democrats unveiled their non-negotiated tax-and-spend Tax Code bill that represents a special interest smorgasbord which will only increase costs on Pennsylvanians.
“Instead of concluding this budget process in a serious and bipartisan manner, House Democrats have loaded up this Tax Code bill with special interest giveaways and legislation that could not pass should it be considered on its own,” said House Republican Whip Tim O’Neal (R-Washington). “Pennsylvanians want government to work for them, but these bills show the House Democratic majority is working for special interests and pushing unilaterally developed extreme ideas on the Commonwealth.”
Examples of special interest giveaways include a Corporate Net Income Tax deduction for medical marijuana organizations and a massive increase in the Film Production Tax Credit.
Earlier this year, Pennsylvania House Republicans unveiled “The Keystone Commitment,” a people-driven, future-focused platform that is designed to lower costs on Pennsylvanians, strengthen the economy, provide safe communities and create a child-first and family-focused educational experience.
According to O’Neal, the Tax Code pushed by House Democrats stands in direct opposition to these principles.
“This tax-and-spend Tax Code bill is not just bad for the Commonwealth, but it is bad for every single individual Pennsylvanian,” O’Neal said. “In fact, it stands in direct opposition to the problems we as Pennsylvanians face every day – increasing costs, an ongoing violent crime crisis and concern about the future of our economy.”
Despite strong opposition,
House Bill 1219 passed the House and now heads to the Senate for consideration.
