HARRISBURG – Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette) issued this statement following the state budget address Tuesday in which Gov. Josh Shapiro outlined a $48.34 billion spending plan for the 2024-25 fiscal year:
“For the second year in a row, the governor is failing to honor the most basic rule of budgeting…you can’t spend more than you bring in. Increasing state spending to such extreme amounts, and using one-time reserve funds to pay for it, virtually guarantees an increase in taxes for individuals, families and employers in the very near future.
“Fortunately, this is nothing more than the governor’s wish list. The House Appropriations Committee, on which I serve, will soon conduct a series of hearings to examine the details of the governor’s plan and, I hope, come to an agreement on a budget that responsibly meets the needs of the Commonwealth today and in the future.”
