HARRISBURG – The House Finance Committee voted Tuesday in favor of several tax relief bills, Rep. Seth Grove (R-York), a member of the committee, said.

The bills passed by the committee include:

•    Two bills involving the Commonwealth’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.  House Bill 683 would amend the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program to exclude disability payments to veterans from their income eligibility.  Additionally, House Bill 421 would increase exemption of death benefits from $5,000 to $10,000 when calculating income eligibility for the program.

•    Two bills which would exclude certain products and services from the Commonwealth’s Sales and Use Tax.  House Bill 283 would exclude gun safes and gun locks from the tax, resulting in a fiscal impact of $2.1 million.  House Bill 504 would exclude timbering operations, resulting in a fiscal impact of $500,000 and boosting an industry deeply important to Pennsylvania’s economy and its heritage.

•    House Bill 971, which would exempt inheritance tax when transferring property to or for the use of a child who is age 21 or younger.  This reform would result in a fiscal impact of $10 million.

“These bills show how small changes to the Commonwealth’s tax programs can save millions of dollars for our residents and businesses,” Grove said.  “I commend my colleagues for taking a close look at our state’s laws, to find commonsense ways to save money for our major industries and for people across the Commonwealth.  We should always be looking for ways to promote economic growth and provide Pennsylvanians with more tax relief.”

Each of the bills now goes to the full House for consideration.
