HARRISBURG – State Rep. Stephenie Scialabba (R-Butler) has been named chair of the PA Artificial Intelligence Opportunity Task Force. The task force, created in 2024, will identify opportunities for artificial intelligence (AI) across various industries throughout the Commonwealth and will guide legislative policy on the issue.
“Rep. Scialabba has an extensive history in the practice of law concerning emerging cyber security and artificial intelligence issues and has shown a keen interest in these areas as a state representative,” said House Republican Leader Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton), who appointed Scialabba to the position. “Her experience and interest make her an obvious choice to lead the Pennsylvania Artificial Intelligence Opportunity Task Force.”
“This appointment is a great responsibility, and I am honored by the trust that has been placed in me,” said Scialabba. “The task force, like Pennsylvania, has limitless potential for meaningful impact in this space. My goal is to leverage Pennsylvania’s energy resources, existing infrastructure and innovative spirit to become a leader in the field – not just for the adoption of AI but for the power generation that AI so heavily requires.”
Scialabba said the task force is scheduled to participate in a major field hearing and tour next week in Butler and Allegheny counties, with more tours and information gathering sessions in April.
“Insight from experts in the field and stakeholders will help us develop public policy that keeps companies here instead of relocating to Ohio. We lost out on a billion-dollar defensive tech facility recently,” said Scialabba. “There’s no excuse. By the conclusion of the scheduled tours and hearings in late spring, we will have a clear picture of what needs to be done in order to help Pennsylvania take its place as the keystone of energy, AI and commerce.
Scialabba emphasized that Pennsylvania is uniquely equipped to lead the way in the development and expansion of data centers because of the state’s wealth of energy resources.
