HARRISBURG – During the PGC’s Annual Report before the House Game and Fisheries meeting, Maloney, the Republican chairman, questioned PGC executive director Steve Smith on the status and locating of a domesticated whitetail deer named “Baby” that was forcibly seized from a family in Fayette County on Feb. 25.

Smith refused to say whether Baby was alive and in good condition, which is concerning seeing as many have seen the video of officers putting a rope around its neck and dragging it on the ground away from the family.

“Mr. Smith told me that the deer was at a facility that is properly licensed to hold deer in captivity, but would not say if the deer was alive,” Maloney said.

More concerning is that the PGC has unilaterally announced Baby will remain at the facility “permanently.”

Questions still abound about Baby. Was the deer ever wildlife or was it born in captivity? The family says it has receipts and paperwork.

“For the PGC’s part, they have offered no proof that the deer was ever a wild deer,” Maloney said. “If they have such proof, other than a newspaper story, they should present it now.”

This exchange is from the PGC’s annual report to the House Game and Fisheries Committee as Maloney questions PGC executive director Steve Smith.
