HARRISBURG – Rep. Keith J. Greiner (R-Upper Leacock), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, today announced the launch of a new website,
TaxpayersThatPay.com, which details the net impact of Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed tax increases on Pennsylvania’s taxpayers.
TaxpayersThatPay.com shows how much more in new personal income and sales taxes that taxpayers in each school district would pay and compares that amount to the funds proposed to go back to taxpayers under Wolf’s property tax shift plan.
“Gov. Wolf has not been telling the whole story about his property tax shift proposal,” Greiner said. “The reality is that, under the governor’s plan, taxpayers would pay much more in new taxes than they would receive in property tax relief. His plan would raise approximately $6.27 billion in new taxes but only redistribute $3.6 billion of that money to local property owners and renters. That’s not property tax relief. It’s simply a tax increase.
“As members of the House Appropriations Committee, my colleagues and I will continue to thoroughly vet each aspect of the governor’s proposal to ensure that taxpayers know exactly how the governor’s proposed tax increases would affect them. This website will help in providing those details.”
Wolf’s proposed budget spends a record $33.8 billion – a 16 percent increase in spending over last year. To support these spending increases, the governor proposes a 40 percent sales tax increase by raising the rate and removing exemptions that currently exist on a number of goods and services. Wolf also proposes an increase of 21 percent to the state’s Personal Income Tax. In fiscal year 2016-17, Wolf’s new taxes would raise an additional $8 billion from Pennsylvania taxpayers.
Greiner encourages all Pennsylvania taxpayers to visit
TaxpayersThatPay.com to get a comprehensive look at how they will be impacted under this plan.
