RIDLEY – In response to Lt. Gov. Mike Stack’s presentation of Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2015-16 state budget proposal at Ridley High School today, Rep. Joe Hackett (R-Delaware) released the following statement:
“Estimates from the House Majority Appropriations Committee show that Ridley School District taxpayers as a whole would pay an additional $16 million in increased sales and personal income taxes while only receiving $13.6 million in property tax relief under Governor Wolf’s budget plan – a shortage of $2.4 million.
“These promises sound familiar from 2008, when another Philadelphia politician made empty promises to Ridley School District about education funding. That’s why I continue to caution residents and school administrators about the governor’s claims of property tax relief. I’m in the process of developing legislation from last session that would freeze property taxes for seniors by implementing an extraction fee on the Marcellus Shale industry.
“I look forward to working out these discrepancies with the present administration as we all move forward to relieve the pressure of property taxes on our residents.”
