HARRISBURG – Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-Northumberland/Snyder) issued the following statement today after Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget address before a joint session of the General Assembly:
“The governor gave his budget address today and he stressed working together to create solutions for the people of Pennsylvania. He outlined his priorities – jobs that pay, schools that teach and government that works – and I agree those three things are very important to Pennsylvania’s overall success. However, his plan would spend $33.8 billion, which translates into a 16 percent year-over-year increase. When all new spending proposals are added together, he is proposing $4.7 billion in new state funding for which taxpayers will be responsible.
“This address today marked the starting point of this process. During the coming weeks, we will be examining every line item of the state budget to ensure we are spending every taxpayer dollar responsibly. I believe that fiscally responsible budgets protect our hard-working citizens and job creators, and I hope our final product reflects this. Throughout this process, I encourage all of my constituents to communicate with me about the state programs and funding that are most important to them.”
